Real Impact Through Education and Empowerment
We at the Give Back to the Children Project (GBTCP), we don’t talk in stats. We talk in moments. It’s not about a pie chart; it’s about a kid grinning ear-to-ear after writing their first full sentence. Every single kid we meet changes us just as much as we try to help them. Not everything’s shiny, but progress? It’s real. We’ve seen it, felt it, lived it.
Reaching Children in Sierra Leone
There’s a corner in Sierra Leone where things used to feel stuck—no tech, no books, not even a proper classroom wall. We showed up with our sleeves rolled and hearts open. Now there’s noise in those rooms. Keyboard clicks, new questions, ideas. We helped create learning hubs filled with computers, supplies, and the kind of tools that spark futures. Some of those kids—once shy, eyes-down—now talk about robotics and medicine. They’re not asking permission to dream anymore. They’re just doing it.
A Fresh Start for American Youth
Stateside, it’s the same fire. Our after-school setups became safe spots—places where kids breathe a little easier. We’ve seen kids who were quiet as shadows find their voices. A boy in one program couldn’t spell his own name right six months ago; now he’s writing stories for fun. With tutoring, games, and mentors who actually listen, school’s not so scary anymore. Grades tick up. Friendships form. Confidence walks in the door where fear used to live.
Stories That Keep Us Going
We don’t need awards—we’ve got their stories. One girl in Chicago told us she wants to teach, just like her GBTCP mentor. Another teen in Freetown made a mobile app. That’s not just progress. That’s legacy. That’s proof that when someone believes in you, everything changes.
The Road Ahead
There’s still work. Always is. We don’t pretend it’s easy. But every success fuels the next try. Our path forward? Keep showing up. Keep building. Keep believing in what kids can become. We’re not chasing perfection—we’re helping real kids write their own better stories. That’s what we do. That’s who we are.
SOME COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What makes GBTCP different from other education-based non-profits?
We don’t hand out numbers and walk away. We sit on dusty floors and listen. We build spaces where kids don’t just pass—they thrive. It’s real people helping real kids with what they need right now, not later. - How has GBTCP helped kids in Sierra Leone?
Oh, that story’s close to the heart. We helped turn bare rooms into buzzing classrooms. Brought in computers, books—stuff that opens doors. Now, those same kids talk tech like pros. Some even want to be doctors. That’s the shift. - Do GBTCP programs exist in the U.S. too?
Yep, right here at home. After-school spots where kids can actually breathe. No judgment, just learning, fun, support. One day they’re stumbling through homework, next thing—writing essays and leading games. It’s wild and amazing. - Is it just tutoring, or is it more than that?
Way more. We’re not only about grades. We talk about confidence. We give space to speak. Some of our kids never had anyone clap for them before. Now they’ve got cheerleaders who show up every time. - How can I help GBTCP keep going?
You can give time, give money, give attention. Spread the word. One share, one hour—seriously, it all matters. Every small thing stacks up when you’re lifting a kid’s future.
